Theresa Simpson knows exactly what this means. Having seen nearly every one of Specialty Orthopedic Group’s providers and having had two surgeries within twelve months, Theresa is a walking testimonial.
Theresa’s Timeline
Theresa first visited Dr. Taylor Mathis, sports medicine specialist with Specialty Orthopedic Group (SOG), in April 2017. Having suffered from hip and groin pain, after several rounds of injections and conservative treatment and an osteoarthritis diagnosis, Dr. Mathis referred Theresa to total joints specialist Dr. Rowland Roberson.
Theresa then met with both nurse practitioner Robin McDonald and Dr. Roberson. It was during these appointments a collective goal was set: to give Theresa back her quality of life. And a hip replacement was her best option to do so.
Fast forward to March 2018. Theresa was experiencing what she thought could possibly be tennis elbow. During her initial visit with nurse practitioner Mamie Kosko, Teresa learned she not only was suffering from carpal tunnel, but her MRI also showed a torn bicep in the same arm. Mamie referred Theresa to hand specialist Dr. Tyler Marks and sports medicine specialist Dr. Rich Rainey.
Dr. Rainey and Dr. Marks both saw Theresa within a few days. Dr. Rainey opted for conservative treatment of Theresa’s bicep, and Dr. Marks determined surgery was the next necessary step for Theresa’s carpal tunnel. Theresa’s second surgery with SOG took place in April 2018.
Since both her hip replacement and carpal tunnel surgeries, Theresa has been a regular feature at SOG with monthly post-operation visits and is looking forward to the future when Dr. Roberson will perform a total knee replacement on her right knee.
Can I Hug You?
When talking with Theresa, she opened up about her experiences with Specialty Orthopedic Group.
“The doctors and nurse practitioners at Specialty Orthopedic Group have a true compassion for people, and that’s a true find,” Theresa said. “They have real hearts and are real people. They don’t talk above your head and explain things in words anyone can understand.”
Theresa also shared anytime she is in the SOG waiting room, she talks with the other patients and hears praises all around.
“You are appreciated by the patients more than you know,” she added.
During an appointment Dr. Roberson, Theresa had a request.
“I am a hugger! Can I give you a hug?” she asked.
Dr. Roberson replied, “Hugs are how I judge how well my clinic is going.”
Our Very Own Cheerleader
Theresa was eager to share why she is so quick to refer Specialty Orthopedic Group to anyone and everyone with a potential orthopedic need.
“Specialty Orthopedic Group is the whole package,” she stated. “The providers can all do everything, but they focus only on their specialties, which is why they are so good at what they do. I was so impressed with my experiences with Dr. Mathis and Dr. Roberson which is why I chose to come back to Dr. Marks and Dr. Rainey.”
Theresa continued her praise by adding, “Everyone is so, so kind and compassionate from the front to the back. Everyone is happy and smiling. The atmosphere is so relaxed. The entire SOG team are all special people who fit together like a puzzle. I believe in every one of them. I tell people all the time I’m like their very own cheerleader.”
After her hip replacement, Theresa saw many positive changes in quality of life. She started riding her bicycle again and is no longer taking blood sugar and diabetes medication.
“I am grateful to them and to God above for the life I have again. They are my heroes.”
