Specialty Orthopedic Group announces expansions and relocation in three N MS cities
Tupelo, Miss. (November 19, 2024) – Specialty Orthopedic Group (SOG) announced the expansion and relocation of their Oxford and Starkville locations, as well as the expansion of their Tupelo facility. These projects represent a $30 million corporate investment and 115 new jobs.
“When we started the practice less than ten years ago, the plan wasn’t to grow to have twenty plus surgeons and 300 plus employees,” said Sparky Luster, Chief Executive Officer for Specialty Orthopedic Group. “It was to create a subspecialty orthopedic model that we felt was desperately needed in North Mississippi for patients, as well as a physician-owned model that would attract physicians to join. All of our doctors are from Mississippi or the adjoining states and did fellowships across the country. They all chose to come back here and serve Mississippi. We are proud to invest in these facilities in North Mississippi that will allow us to provide better access for our patients and offer more service lines, while also creating jobs in our community.”
Oxford Clinic Expansion and Relocation
Specialty Orthopedic Group broke ground on their new clinic, walk-in urgent care, ambulatory surgery center, and physical therapy facility located in Oxford, MS earlier this spring.
“We are excited about the future of SOG to say the least,” shared Dr. Ryves Moore. “We have experienced exponential growth in our practice since opening the doors almost ten years ago. SOG’s growth speaks directly to the demand for subspecialized orthopedic care in this area – something that had not previously been available to this community.”
The 47,108 square-foot facility, located at 723 Concordia Avenue, will feature twenty-eight clinic exam rooms, one procedure room, and will be equipped with two digital x-ray systems.
Additionally, SOG announced two new divisions to SOG’s Oxford location – ambulatory surgery center (ASC) and physical therapy. The 17,778 square-foot ASC will include four operating rooms and one procedure room, and the 5,158 square-foot physical therapy center will feature twenty treatment tables, an AlterG® Anti-Gravity Treadmill™, and include both physical and occupational therapy services.
“SOG is investing tremendously in the Oxford market with the new facility,” added Moore. “In addition to a much larger clinic space, we will now have state-of-the-art outpatient surgery and physical therapy centers all under the same roof, giving our patients the opportunity to recover faster and better than ever before.”
The building will also feature a dedicated walk-in urgent care clinic for patients with emergent and non-emergent needs, including fractures, pain management, and myriad acute and non-acute orthopedic-related needs.
While the new Oxford facility is projected to open summer 2025, regular business operations resume at the current Oxford clinic location.
Starkville Clinic Expansion and Relocation
SOG recently started construction on a new location to accommodate the growth and needs of its patient population in the Golden Triangle area.
“It has been a privilege and an honor to serve Starkville and the Golden Triangle while working alongside the most comprehensive and well-trained orthopedic staff,” said Dr. Chad Altmyer. “The people of Starkville and the surrounding communities deserve the best and it is truly an honor to deliver that product and continue to expand and show our commitment to you.”
The 12,715 square-foot facility, located at 118 Highway 12 W, Suite C in Starkville, MS, will feature sixteen clinic exam rooms, one procedure room, and will be equipped with two digital x-ray systems.
In addition to expanded clinic space, the Starkville facility also includes over 3,000 square feet dedicated to physical therapy and will offer both physical therapy and occupational therapy services.
During construction of the new location, Starkville’s current clinic remains open Monday through Friday.
Projected completion for the Starkville expansion and relocation is late spring 2025.
Tupelo Clinic Expansion
Construction is also underway for Specialty Orthopedic Group’s Tupelo, MS facility.
“We are continuing to evaluate our needs to provide the highest quality of care to our patients and provide the best experience possible,” said Dr. Matt Miller. “With this expansion, we will increase clinic efficiency and be able to expand clinic services. This will allow us to continue offering the same high-quality care our community expects while also improving the patient experience.”
The company is increasing its clinic by 8,207 square feet. The expanded clinic space will be equipped with two digital x-ray systems, one procedure room, and eighteen patient exam rooms, for a total of four digital x-ray systems, two procedure rooms, and forty-seven exam rooms in the Tupelo clinic. Plans are also underway to increase parking capacity on the campus to 385 stalls, with fifty-one additional parking stalls slated for the South Gloster parking lot and eighty-seven additional parking stalls slated for the Mary Vance parking lot. Upon completion in fall 2025, the Tupelo campus, which houses a clinic, ambulatory surgery center, physical therapy services, and urgent care, will be 50,500 square feet.
