Specialty Orthopedic Group partnered with the Calhoun County Gateway and Career Pathway Experience program, offered through Three Rivers, to afford one of their students, Christopher Matthieu, an opportunity to observe surgery as he pursues his interest in the medical field.
As a student in the Gateway program, Christopher is required to obtain 60 hours of work and/or observation.
“It was such a joy to have Christopher here this week to observe surgeries at our outpatient surgery center,” said Mickie Dykes, SOG’s ambulatory surgery center’s clinical director. “His passion for medicine is evident, and we know his future is bright.”
Christopher spent two days with SOG’s surgery team. While here, he observed shoulder and knee scopes performed by Dr. Richard Rainey, an ankle scope performed by Dr. Cal Adams, and shoulder and hip scopes performed by Dr. Taylor Mathis.
“My experience at Specialty Orthopedic Group in Tupelo was extremely eye-opening,” shared Christopher. “It gave me incredible insight as to how surgeries are conducted and the process that accompanies it. The staff was extremely professional during this experience and incredibly kind to me. This is an experience I will carry far into the future.”
We wish Christopher the very best as he continues to pursue his interest in the medical field.
